In the spirit of community, we want to share some of our favorite places to take our pups in the Lehigh Valley. Living in the Lehigh Valley is a dog-lover’s dream. From the amazing park system and wilder trails to cheerful communities that embrace and celebrate our canine pals, there is always something to do with your dog in the Valley. Remember, retractable leashes can lead to problems in crowded places. As always, our favorite way to ensure the safety of your dog in a crowded place is wearing a harness. Stop into Cold Nose Lodge’s boutique for a harness. Bring your dog and we will fit the harness to them for free.

1. ‘Yappy’ Hour at Fegley’s Allentown Brew Works
Hang out on the Biergarten Patio at the Allentown Brew Works on Tuesdays from 5:30 – 8:30 pm with your furry friend for Yappy Hour! Not only is the patio a great place to celebrate the coming warm evenings with great food and drinks, each Yappy Hour benefits an animal rescue, shelter, or animal welfare organization. How awesome is that? Conveniently, the first Yappy Hour of the year is this coming Tuesday, May 1st and benefits Fureverhomes Doberman Rescue, Inc.

2. The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley
The beautiful dog-friendly Promenade Shops were designed to be reminiscent of the downtown-style shopping of yesteryear complete with a town square. With plenty of seating areas and even firepits, the Promenade Shops are a great place to leisurely browse. Grab a puppuccino for your pal at Starbucks and window shop–or go on a shopping spree! There are a ton of dog-friendly stores in the center.

The Promenade is also a great place to practice training with distractions. We’ve even incorporated a field trip to the Promenade Shops into our Canine Good Citizen training class. This two-part dog training program stresses responsible pet ownership and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs must pass a ten-step test held during the last class. When they pass, they will receive a Canine Good Citizen Certificate from the American Kennel Club! Learn more about Canine Good Citizen. We have a CGC class starting next month: on Wednesdays, May 30th – July 11th (no class July 4th)

3. Get Away Close to Home in Bethlehem, PA
Bethlehem has one of the “Top 10 Main Streets” in the country, according to U.S.A. Today and is very dog-friendly! From The Brew Works as mentioned above, to outdoor areas The Steel Pub (live music!), Tapas on Main, and the Apollo Grill, there are just so many great, dog-friendly spots to grab a bite and drink. The historic downtown is a beautiful place to explore with your pup by your side.
At first sight, the upscale Historic Hotel Bethlehem and the Sayre Mansion don’t necessarily radiate a pet-friendly vibe, but surprisingly enough, they are! With the Hotel Bethlehem right in the center of it all and the Sayre Mansion just 2 minutes away over the bridge in the SouthSide Arts District, what better place for a weekend getaway with your pup?
The Historic Hotel Bethlehem accepts up to two posh pets under 30 lbs lbs or one pet of any size for an additional fee of $75 per stay. There is even a pet-friendly room service menu! The Sayre Mansion impresses with two pets of any size are welcome for no additional fee!

4. Dog Days at the Iron Pigs
Going to an IronPigs game is a great night for the whole family. The IronPigs have the strongest promotional schedule in all of Minor League Baseball. They also have the best fans, and their fans have the cutest dogs (No, I’m not biased! Haha.) Mondays are TD Bank Dog Days at the IronPigs. You can bring your dog to the park and it’s also dollar dog night with $1 Berks hot dogs for sale the entire game. So, bring your dog, and buy a dog! And maybe share a little piece with your pup.

6. Visit a Dog Park
Dog parks are great places for dogs to socialize, explore, and exercise with each other. However, part of visiting the dog park is understanding that since it is public, there are some things that are going to be out of your control. Our last blog post shared some tips on keeping the dog park a safe and fun experience for you and your pup: You can read it here.
The long-awaited Dixon Street Dog Park in Allentown is set to open this Spring. We haven’t heard any updates yet, but we’re hoping our canine pals in the Lehigh Valley will get to explore the new park soon. If you live west of Allentown, you may be close to two dog parks! Rt. 100 Off Leash Area can be found at 1625 North Route 100. The second dog park is at Grange Park at 360 Grange Road. Monocacy Dog Park in Bethlehem can be visited at 259 Illick Mill Rd in Bethlehem. There are also a few dog parks nearby the Valley in Hellertown, Nazereth, and Kutztown.

7. PaintSome Pottery
PaintSome Pottery is a pottery studio in the Tilghman Square shopping center in Allentown. Whether you’re looking for something fun and creative to do with friends, as a date, or with the whole family, with a wide variety of techniques available, there is something for everyone at this studio. It’s always nice to be greeted by a friendly face and the studio is very casual with no-pressure. Just be creative in your own way!
Paintsome Pottery does not only allow pets, their site warmly exclaims, “We love pets! Animals are welcome here. Our glazes and clay wash off with water and are non toxic so your pets can make art and prints as well!” Walk ins are welcome and they do not have a sitting or firing fee.

8. Galen Glen Winery
The Lehigh Valley Wine Trail is home to eight family-owned vineyards and wineries. One of these wineries, Galen Glen Winery, allows your furry friend to accompany you while you sip! In village of Andreas, not too far from Bake Oven Knob, Galen Glen winery boasts gorgeous hillside vineyards with extraordinary panoramic views. With their old world architecture, they ask, “could this be Europe?” As long as your dog is well-behaved, cleaned up after, and of course leashed, they’re welcome to enjoy the tranquility of Galen Glen with you. Dogs are not allowed in the tasting room, which doesn’t pose an issue to pet-lovers since wine can be purchased by the glass to enjoy on the picturesque grounds.
Galen Glen is even hosting a Pocono Greyhound Adoption event on June 2! Pocono Greyhound Adoption is an all-volunteer staffed not-for-profit agency devoted to educating the public, the care and finding fur-ever homes of retired racing greyhounds. From 12 – 4pm on June 2nd, the organization will be at the winery with adoptable dogs and merchandise for purchase.

They also aim to educate the public to accept the use of service dogs in public places.

Our founder, Rayne, noticed a trend while working in animal welfare and rescue. Many wonderful dogs end up in shelters because of behavioral issues. These issues could be eliminated with proper dog training and adequate exercise. Keeping more dogs in happy homes was Rayne’s vision when she established Cold Nose Lodge in 2008. It’s what gets us to work every day.
We care deeply about animals. We aim to put you at ease while your dog is with us. We offer both full and half days of dog daycare and even have cameras so that you can check in on your furry friend! We also offer luxury dog boarding in spacious suites complete with toddler beds.
In every interaction we have with your dog, we operate on a relationship of trust. Cold Nose Lodge has wonderful trainers on staff that practice trust-based dog training. We also offer a variety of options including dog training classes and customized private training programs.
